Wahlen in Indien: Hindunationalismus auf dem Vormarsch

Seit dem 19. April finden in Indien für 6 Wochen Wahlen statt. Dass die von Narendra Modi geführte Nationale Demokratische Allianz (NDA) die Wahl gewinnt, ist weitgehend unumstritten. Die Frage ist: Wie viele Sitze werden die Hindutva-Rechten gewinnen? Sind diese erfolgreich, könnten sie es schaffen, die indische Verfassung zu ändern, und das Land offiziell zum hinduistischen Mehrheitsstaat festschreiben – mit verheerenden Konsequenzen für die 200 Millionen Muslim:innen in Indien. Aber nicht nur diese würden darunter leiden. Schon jetzt begehen faschistische Mobs unbehelligt Pogrome, gewerkschaftliche Rechte werden massiv eingeschränkt und die nationale Unabhängigkeit Kaschmirs wird mit Füßen getreten. Was also tun? Wir wollen gemeinsam mit euch einen genaueren Blick auf die aktuelle Lage in Indien werfen und diskutieren, was es braucht, um sich dem entgegenzustellen.

Elections are being held in India for 6 weeks from 19 April. It is mostly undisputed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Narendra Modi will win the election. The question is: how many seats will the Hindutva right win? If they are successful, they could succeed in revising India’s constitution and officially make the country a Hindu-majority state – with dramatic consequences for the 200 million Muslims in India. But they would not be the only ones to suffer. Fascist mobs are already committing pogroms unchallenged, trade union rights are being massively restricted and the national independence of Kashmir is being ignored. So, what needs to be done? Together with you, we want to take a closer look at the current situation in India and discuss what is needed to oppose this.
