By the end of this summer, México will have a first female president holding office and a majority in congress from her party Partido Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional. This also represents Morena’s second term in power; following the sexenium of moderate left-wing president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) after five decades of neoliberal rule. Morena centers its discourse on non-intervention and republican austerity policies for reducing social inequality and promoting self-determination of the native population. These intentions are often stagnated by the narco state in collusion with neoliberal public servants still in power and backed by US interests.
Will Morena’s self-proclaimed fourth transformation‘ meet the most basic needs of Mexico’s working class within the next sexenial? Come discuss the policies AMLO did and didn’t deliver, and their (un)expected continuation during Claudia Sheinbaun’s term!
